Balsamic BBQ Sauce

Rich, tangy, and slightly sweet, this Balsamic BBQ Sauce takes classic barbecue flavor up a notch with the depth of balsamic vinegar and a hint of heat from Paducah Olive Oil’s Baklouti Green Chile Pepper Olive Oil. Perfect for chicken, ribs, burgers—or anything you love to grill.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 1 ½ cups ketchup

  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar (dark balsamic works best)

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp molasses or honey

  • 2 tbsp dry mustard

  • 2 tbsp Paducah Olive Oil’s Baklouti Green Chile Pepper Olive Oil (or any UP EVOO or fused/infused olive oil)

  • 1 small white or yellow onion

  • 2 tsp granulated garlic

  • 2 tsp smoked paprika (mild or spicy)

  • 2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

  • 2 tsp kosher salt

  • Fresh ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

  2. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  3. Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, molasses or honey, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, mustard, granulated garlic, smoked paprika, black pepper, and cayenne (if using).

  4. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring frequently, until slightly thickened.

  5. Transfer sauce to a blender and blend until smooth.

  6. Cool to room temperature, then transfer to a jar and refrigerate for up to 1 month.
